SIS Project December 2020 Update

December 18, 2020

In just a few short weeks on Jan. 11, 2021, Release 4 will completely wrap-up with the deployment of additional SIS functionality to students and staff. This release will introduce access to:

  • Class Search (Shopping Cart and Planner): A new Class Search will be available. While logged into SIS, students can prepare for fall 2021 enrollment by adding classes from Class Search to their Shopping Cart. Students will also begin using the Planner tool to produce a multi-year course plan based on their degree requirements.
  • Academic Progress: Students will be able to track their degree progress using the Academic Requirement Report (Degree Audit) while meeting with advisors. Academic advisors will be able to use that information, in addition to a student’s Planner, to advise and guide.
  • Academic Records: Students will be able to see their academic records, including degree progress, course history, transfer credit and grades. This information will continue to be maintained in StuInfo but will be phased out later in 2021. During that time, the Project can address any record discrepancies students or advisors may identify prior to SIS becoming the official record for degree conferral.
  • GradPlan: Graduate students, both master’s and doctoral, will begin using the new GradPlan. Students graduating fall 2021 and after will begin using the new GradPlan to track their degree progress and requirements.

For a summary of functionality that went live in the first Release 4 milestones, review our go-live notification on the SIS website.

While the Project works toward providing more functionality to campus, we are continuing to develop training and resources to assist students and staff while they begin using the new system:

  • Current training resources are located at sis.msu.edu/training/. Information about training sessions, links to self-paced training modules and Job Aids are available.
  • Help information for those currently using SIS is available at sis.msu.edu/sishelp.html. This page includes FAQs, help contacts and guides for students using the system.
  • Additional resources, including links to recordings and content from previous Campus Engagement webinars, are available at sis.msu.edu/resources/.

New content is continually added to these webpages, so check back regularly for updates.

Finally, the Project team is excited to bring campus stakeholders together in another Campus Engagement Webinar on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, from 8:30 – 10 a.m. Please save the date for this event. Agenda information as well as registration for the webinar will be available at the beginning of January. We look forward to updating campus on the final Release 4 milestones, in addition to functionality staff and students can anticipate with Release 5, going live on March 1, 2021.
